Welcome to the webpage for the Granite Falls School District Board of Directors commonly referred to as the School Board. Directors are a group of five community members that are elected to represent 1 (of the 5 districts) to ensure representation from across the service area. Members of the public may also be appointed to a director position when (or if) a board member vacates the position in the middle of their term. Board members are elected for a four-year-term, whereas, appointed board members serve a two-year-term.
The Board Members primary function is to (1)interpret and set polices, (2)delegate administrative duties, and (3)make continuous appraisal of the educational progress. The Board is responsible for selecting and evaluating the Superintendent, exercising the legislative powers conferred by the Legislature in overseeing school functions, assisting in the public needs and progress of the education system, considering facility plans/projects, adopting the annual budget and adopting the District Strategic Plan which embodies the District’s mission, vision and goals.
DISTRICT 1: David Green was recently elected to the Board in 2017! Dave is a parent of 2 children currently in the Granite Falls School District and one graduated who is now a junior at Cal Poly as an Aerospace Engineering Major. Dave enjoys working in the school on such programs as Robotics, Eco Cars and STEM projects. Dave helped bring the Boys & Girls Club back into Granite Falls with a focus on STEM and is the only club in the county with a robotics program; he is currently working with the Boys & Girls Club to bring robotics to more clubs in the county. He has been in the aviation field for over 26 years working in lean business and planning, as well as a mechanic and technician in functional test of hydraulic, pneumatics, electrical and flight controls.
DISTRICT 2: Robert Butler, President (2017-2018), was appointed to the Board on January 29, 2014 and elected to the position on November 3, 2015. Robert is a newer resident of the Granite Falls area, yet is already very active in the community. He is on the board of TECO, supports CTE programming, and enjoys watching high school football. He is married with three boys and one girl.
DISTRICT 3: Richard (Dick) Panagos, Legislative Representative, was appointed to the Board on July 12, 2016. He and his family have lived in Granite Falls for 20 years and have a grandson currently attending school in the district. Dr. Panagos is a retired educator who served as the principal at Granite Falls Middle School for 12 years (1996 – 2008). He is actively involved in community events and has been a member of the Granite Falls Education Foundation for the past five years. Dick is an avid golfer and die hard Mariner’s fan. He continues to “bleed purple” for his alma mater, the Northwestern Wildcats.
DISTRICT 4: Thomas (Tom) Eadie, WIAA Representative (2017-2018), was appointed to the Board on June 2, 2010 and then elected to the Board in November 2012. Tom has four children, three currently in school and one recent graduate from Granite Falls High School. He is active in youth athletics coaching baseball, basketball, and football. Tom is employed by the Tulalip Housing Department, Co-Chair of the BYU-H Alumni Board, and plays saxophone in a small rock band.
DISTRICT 5: Carl G. Cary, Vice President & Community Representative (2017-2018), was elected to the school board on December 4, 2013 and has been an active member in the local community since 2009. Carl is married with two children and is hosting a foreign exchange student. Carl currently works as a consultant for Lerch Bates. Carl enjoys coaching youth athletics and participating in helping to create better options for children in our community. He advocated to bring the Granite Falls Boys and Girls Club back to Granite. He is a leader in the Watch D.O.G.S. program, and an active member of the Community Coalition. #WEAREGRANITE
SUPERINTENDENT / BOARD SECRETARY: Linda Hall became Superintendent of the Granite Falls School District on July 1st, 2011. This is her 25th year in Administration, after teaching 11 years at the elementary level. She is an active member of her church, the Education Foundation, Pilchuck Foundation, Chamber of Commerce, the Lions Club and Key Communicator Group. Linda and her husband own a home in Granite Falls and have 3 daughters and 8 grandchildren. She enjoys running, skiing, reading and her favorite indulgence, ice cream.
