2022 Levies

Granite Falls School District Replacement Levy Election

Ballots must be postmarked on or before February 8

The Granite Falls School Board of Directors has approved two levies for the February 8, 2022 ballot. The School Board kept the levy amount the same so the levies will cost approximately the same amount that taxpayers currently pay. This is not a new tax; it is a replacement of a tax that expires in December 2022.

The two levies - the replacement School Programs and Operation Levy and the replacement Technology and School Improvements Levy - will replace or “continue” the two existing levies that expire on December 31, 2022.

The levies represent 16% of our daily operating expenses. With over $3 million dollars in state budget cuts the past three years, increased fuel and utility costs, and constantly changing technology needs, the levies are critical in supporting student learning.

In addition, by separating the Programs and Operation Levy from the Technology Levy (instead of having one levy), the state will allow the District to keep approximately $50,000, which is state funding from the sale of timber within our District. If we combined the levies together, we would lose that extra money.

Levies provide money for programs, activities, and services that are not covered by state funding for basic education. That means school districts ask local voters to pick up the cost of education that the state does not pay for through levies. Levies help pay for day-to-day expenses such as:

  • Technology needs for student learning
  • Textbooks
  • Bus transportation
  • Staff support such as class advisors, academic team advisors, and coaches salaries
  • Large music instruments and athletic equipment
  • Utilities (heat, lights) and insurance
  • Upkeep and maintenance of all facilities and grounds
  • Large maintenance repairs

Ballots can be mailed as soon as you receive them but must be mailed on or before February 8. There is also a drop box located at the Granite Falls Library for your convenience.
