The founding mission of the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards is to advance the quality of teaching and learning by: 1) maintaining high and rigorous standards for what accomplished teachers should know and be able to do; 2) providing a national voluntary system certifying teachers who meet these standards; and 3) advocating related education reforms to integrate national board certification in american education and to capitalize on the expertise of national board certified teachers. recognized nationwide, the national board believes higher standards for teachers means better learning for students.


DEBRA is a 4-5-6 multi-age teacher at monte cristo elementary. mrs. howell has taught for 35 years in the granite falls school district in washington state. she received her initial certification in 1999, as one of the first in washington. she renewed in 2009 and again now in 2019. she has been a presenter at local, state and national nbcts events. debra has also been a nb facilitator in the state and a renewal facilitator as well during the course of the past 20 years.



tracy is a high school teacher at crossroads. mrs. orr has taught for 20 years in the granite falls school district in the state of washington. she received her initial certification in 2010 and this is her first renewal.

They are two of 4,786 teachers across the United States to renew their certification as a National Board Certified Teacher (NBCT). Way to go!
