Hi! My name is Debra Howell. This is actually my 24th year of proudly teaching here in the Granite Falls School District. I find myself with new students that are the children of some of my very first elementary students! I have taught grades 3-8 including high school drivers education. I received my education at Western Washington University growing up in the Everett area all of my life. I have two children. Christopher recently graduated from GFHS and is currently attending the N.W. Lineman College in Boise, ID. Kaitlan is a sophomore attending GFHS. My puppy Saige is a Yellow Labrador that keeps us highly entertained. Frances our fat cat is the dog’s entertainment. My interests include writing, computer work, and teaching classes about National Board Certification and multiage across the state and beyond, exercising and being with my family. I earned my National Board Certification in 2000. With my NBCT certificate I continue working with the UW as an adjunct professor helping to train new candidates for certification. In 2005 I received a Golden Apple Award from KCTS 9 and also was named the ESD 189 Regional Teacher of the Year. I continue to team-teach with my brother Michael Schireman. We are starting our 10th year of teaming. We blend our students together for most of the subjects. I am so fortunate to teach with one of my very best friends. It is a cohesive partnership that helps to better provide for a true family feeling in our classroom. Come and see! |
